Over 90% of Resumes Fail to Meet the ATS-Ready Scoring Threshold in 2026

On October 7, new large-scale diagnostic data revealed that the vast majority of job seekers are falling short of baseline optimization standards. An extensive review of recent documents shows that over 90% of resumes fail to meet the standard ATS-ready scoring threshold, underscoring a massive gap between applicant materials and diagnostic expectations.

The 70-Point Threshold Gap

Out of 199,447 successful Pika ATS diagnostic scans completed from May to October 2026, 90.6% scored below the 70 out of 100 mark required for an ATS-ready label. The overall average score settled at 60.6, alongside a median of 62. Landing at the top of the scale is highly uncommon, as a mere 0.1% of the analyzed documents achieved an excellent grade of 85 or above.

Grammar Outweighs Formatting Failures

While applicants often worry about complex layouts breaking tracking systems, pure formatting is rarely the primary culprit. Just 1.1% of eligible documents fail parsing checks outright. In contrast, the most frequent critical issue is Impact, Grammar & Consistency. This category resulted in a direct failure for 36.9% of the recent sample, making it the dominant roadblock for modern resumes.

Missing Skills and Flawless Sweeps

Achieving a completely clean sweep across all eight core diagnostic checks is practically unheard of, with the exact pass rate rounding to zero. On average, a scanned document cleanly clears only 2.7 of those checks. Additionally, when documents are compared against specific job descriptions, the keyword match score averages just 65 out of 100, leaving substantial room for targeted improvement.
